Greggs is pretty much Britain’s favourite bakery. You can’t go wrong with a delicious sausage roll, even if you’re a vegetarian.
Greggs is known for being a walk-in, walk-out type of food establishment with eati-in seating areas being a fairly new addition. However, it seems that you don’t even have to get out of the car anymore. A new branch has opened the first ever drive-thru, located in Greater Manchester.
It resides at the Irlam Gateway Service Station in Salford. A lot of people on their travels won’t often stop for too long, or even get out the car when they’re taking a quick food break. Fitting location. It’s open all day from 6AM to 9PM every week day and 7AM to 7PM on Saturdays. Sunday sees slightly shorter hours of 8AM to 6PM.
Apparently, this drive-thru is being tested up in the north before a potential nationwide roll-out. Chief executive, Roger Whiteside, explains:
“When it comes to food on-the- go, our customers tell us that convenience is key. We’ve been working hard to take Greggs to where our customers need and want us to be including office parks, industrial estates, retail parks and travel hubs.
“A drive-thru offers the ultimate convenience and seemed the logical next step for us to take. This is a first for Greggs and we are excited to trial the concept in Irlam, Manchester.”
You may remember when we covered Greggs trialing a delivery service last October in Newcastle. Unfortunately, nothing has been said since. They seem to be establishing themselves further and further though, so there is hope yet.
