While this months pick for man of the month isn’t exactly somebody who’s stolen the spotlight recently, he’s still very deserving of this place.
The one and only Dougie Poynter is most famous for being the bassist of British pop rock band, McFly. We’re all most certain that you’ve given them a listen at some point in your life.
Dougie has been part of the band since its inception in 2003, just like his other three band mates. Being the youngest member (born 30th November, 1987), Dougie was only 15-years-old when he signed up to become the band’s bass player.
Since then, McFly have become a huge success. They became the youngest band ever to chart a number one debut album – a title taken away from The Beatles!
Anyway, Dougie’s musical talent isn’t the reason we’ve actually chosen him for the man of the month spot. It’s a successful effort that we feel deserves more recognition.
Dougie says he’s always been fascinated by the natural world, and wants to do whatever he can to preserve it. At this alone, I already admire the man but it’s his recent campaigning that truly makes him man of the month material.
Microbeads are present in a lot of wash-off cosmetic and personal care products, but they have a terrible impact on the environment. They are tiny pieces of plastic in certain products, and you should already know the environmental effects of plastic.
Dougie’s contribution to recent campaigns to have these small pieces of plastic taken out of our products where they’re not needed will have certainly helped a lot. Having a influential entertainment figure like himself helps turn people’s attention towards such issues.
It certainly paid off too, as microbeads in wash-away products are now banned. That’s one small step to keeping unwanted plastic away from our oceans.
Keep up the amazing work Dougie, you’ve certainly earned this spot as August’s man of the month.
