Nintendo Switch console lets you play games away from home
20th October 2016

The new console from Nintendo has been revealed and due to the success of in the handheld console market, it comes as no surprise to some that it is quite a mish-mash of home console and handheld device.

The console was first shown in a video released by Nintendo to their YouTube channel (shown below) which appears to show a tablet kind of device that has two controllers that you can detach from its sides.

Nintendo’s previous home console released was considered a bit of a flop by some as it was rapidly outsold by Sony’s Playstation 4 and Microsoft’s Xbox One, but Nintendo enjoyed a lot of success with their handheld 3DS console.

The Switch appears to sit on a “dock”, allowing you to play games from a television like a standard home console, but it can then be detached from this “dock” and used like a stand alone portable device using its smaller screen.

The Switch can be docked and used like a home console.

The games for the Switch will come in small cartridges which is a small nod to Nintendo’s earlier consoles such as the Gameboy.

Leading game studios and publishers are said to be producing software for the console, including the likes of Activision, Bethesda, EA Games, Sega, Ubisoft and Warner Brothers.

Bethesda’s 2011 hit “The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim” appears to be playable on the Switch.

Nintendo has also announced that its highly anticipated title “Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild” will be released on the Switch.

A technical specification is yet to be revealed, but the console is coming relatively soon with its released slated for March 2017.
