The Man Wants Festive Cheese Guide

Back in August, the Man Wants office was alive with a passion for cheese as we began preparing ‘The Best Cheese on Toast Recipes to Celebrate National Welsh Rarebit Day’. It was around this time, we discovered award winning Cheese makers ‘The Cheshire Cheese Company’ and all our cheesy prayers were answered!

As we prep for the annual Christmas binge, we figured we’d touch base with our old friends at The Cheshire Cheese Company and prepare a Festive Cheese Guide to see us through the Christmas period. Be warned: This is not your regular festive cheese guide, this is the Man Wants cheese guide.

The Creamy One

Cheshire Cheese is regarded as one of Britain’s most-loved cheeses, with a creamy taste that’s accented by that distinctive Cheshire acidity. Now what would the Cheshire Cheese Company be without a cracking, traditional creamy Cheshire cheese?! Pair with the natural sweetness of a gourmet caramelised red onion chutney for the ultimate indulgence.

The Festive One

For Christmas only, The Cheshire Cheese Company have launched the limited edition ‘Santa’s Choice’ cheese. A festive creamy Cheshire cheese, infused with the seasonal flavours of apples, sultanas and cinnamon. A hearty homage to the northern tradition of pairing cheese with fruit cake. For an alternative festive favourite that’s exclusive to Christmas, you must take a chance on the sweet & savoury infusion of Wensleydale & Cranberries.

The Hot One

Deliver a little kick to your cheese board with a cheese choice, that’s blended with fiery jalapeno chilli, a splash of lime and a glug of tequila. The Cheshire Cheese Company’s ‘El Gringo’ Chilli, Lime & Tequila Cheese takes inspiration from the crowd-pleasing cuisines of Mexico – nicknamed ‘most wanted’ because of it’s moreish taste!

The Mature One

Okay, we’re not talking about our Editor, Malcolm. A cheddar cheese lays the foundations for a good cheese board and ‘Black Bob Extra Mature Cheddar’ is the Cheshire Cheese Companies best-selling and tastiest (in our opinion) cheese! Awarded a Silver at the International Cheese Awards, this extra mature cheddar is a must-have for every cheese board….

The Smokey One

If you’re looking for a cheese to team with continental meats, a smoked cheese like the ‘Smokey Redwood‘ Gold Award Winning Smokey Mature Cheddar is a fantastic choice. Awarded the Gold Medal at the International Cheese Awards, this popular choice is a perfect balance between a creamy mature cheddar and a tangy smokey cheese. Just add olives!

The Sweet One

We’ve all lived through the dilemma of having to choose between a dessert and a cheese board but the Cheshire Cheese Company have answered all our prayers with their remarkable ‘Sticky Toffee Heaven’. This super-sweet sticky toffee treat has real toffee blended with medium cheddar and sticky toffee pudding. With a unique flavour that can be compared more to fudge than that of cheese, there’s no denying that The Sticky Toffee Pudding Cheese is a real conversation starter!

The Boozy One

We can all appreciate that red wine & cheese make the perfect pairing and at The Cheshire Cheese Company, they have infused some of their popular cheeses with our favourite tipples! This year, we’re going to be indulging in the Caramelised Onion & Rioja Cheddar, The Old Hag Wincle Ale & Mustard Cheddar and the popular, Gin & Lemon Cheshire Cheese.

Elevate your cheeseboard with a selection of chutneys, pickles and jams from The Cheshire Cheese Company – the possibilities are endless! What’s your favourite cheese pairing? Get in touch and comment below.
